Becoming a Member

Are you concerned about the care and use of laboratory animals?  Are you dedicated to improving the quality of animal research?  If so, then a CALAS membership provides you with the opportunity to make a difference.

Since 1962, CALAS has been a leading force in ensuring laboratory animals are cared for in the most humane way possible. Currently representing and serving over 1,000 veterinarians, physicians, researchers, administrators and technicians across Canada, CALAS offers tangible and rewarding advantages for institutional, individual and student members alike.

Benefits include involvement in an organization committed to the well being of animals in research, as well as exposure to a vast network of other individuals with similar interests, nationwide.  CALAS’ commitment to providing a first-class educational forum for laboratory animal science provides you with the current knowledge and information for career advancements, higher quality animal care, continued education, networking, and self-satisfaction.

There are several different types of CALAS memberships available. New Membership Database

Membership in CALAS is growing and we have now topped the 1,000 member mark! As a result, we are transitioning to a new membership database and have updated our membership categories.

What does the new system mean to you? We hope it will mean better communication with members and eventually, more opportunities for you to network and share information with colleagues from across the country.

The new system is being implemented in phases and has been customized to suit the distinct needs of our members. In the long run the system will enable us to:

·         Maintain several addresses for each member and track your communication preferences.

·         Automatically calculate and track many forms of Mandatory Continuing Education Credits

·         Allow exam candidates the option of submitting applications and supporting documentation on-line or by mail

·         Allow exam candidates to track their registry program on-line

·         Form special interest groups, committees and task forces to whom we can send regular updates and notes of interest

Overall, this transition will mean an enriched relationship with our members!

During this year’s renewal process we will be asking for a lot more information while we transition to the new system so that we can ensure we have the most current and up to date information from you.
