Felasa is composed of independent European national and regional laboratory animal science associations, and was established by them in 1978. It can speak for laboratory animal scientists and technologists in at least twenty European countries - Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom. It is managed solely by representatives of its constituent associations in those countries.

The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) Three Rs Microsite has now been published on the CCAC website. The CCAC Three Rs Microsite aims to provide those involved with the use of animals in science with easily accessible, useful, and relevant information and resources on the Three Rs - Replacement, Reduction and Refinement alternatives.
1. Care, Handling and Use of Aquatic Animals (http://www.upei.ca/fishcarecourse) - The Care, Handling and Use of Aquatic Animals program is an intensive 5 day program offered by the Canadian Aquaculture Institute. Working with the expert faculty and technical staff of the Fish Health Unit of the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island and in-house staff, the Canadian Aquaculture Institute has designed this intensive 5-day program to address a broad range of topics specific to the care, handling and use of aquatic animals. This program has been specifically tailored to meet the Canadian Council on Animal Care's National Institional Aquatic Animal User Training Program guidelines and to address the specific care and use issues associated with aquatic animals in laboratory settings.
2. The Experimental Fish (http://www.upei.ca/cai/experimentalfish.htm) - The Experimental Fish is an online WebCT training program for people who "use" fish in research, teaching and testing applications. The course syllabus closely follows the core topics outlined in the Canadian Council on Animal Care's National Institional Aquatic Animal User Training Program with special reference to aquatic animals. This program reviews not only regulatory and ethical issues involved in experimental animal use but also the practical aspects of aquatic animal care. This course in combination with wet-lab demonstrations will provide a complete user training program in an institutional setting.
