Your opportunity:

The Research Ethics Coordinator (Animal Ethics), contributes to the administration of ethics review procedures and policies by providing support to the activities of the Research Oversight and Compliance Office (ROCO) and Animal Ethics and Compliance Program (AECP). The Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative assistance and coordination of ethics review for animal protocols, including acting as first point of contact for inquiries through email, telephone and in person, for the coordination of meetings, compiling reports and data entry. The incumbent provides assistance and support to the research community and Animal Care Committee (ACC) members with respect to administrative aspects of the animal ethics and compliance program by providing detailed information on completing and submitting documents. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing administrative support for educational events, retreats, external agency visits, and related tasks.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Collect information and pass on animal use protocols (AUPs) for review

• Coordinate ACC meetings, including schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items, and prepare minutes

• Maintain information in databases

• Provide assistance to the research community with AECP administrative processes by providing detailed information on completing and submitting documents

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum 3 years relevant experience in research administration

• Demonstrated ability to follow detailed, multi-step processes and apply guidelines to administrative tasks

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

• Strong communication skills, with proven ability to review detailed documentation for completion, and draft correspondence with high level of accuracy.

• Demonstrated ability to understand and adapt to emerging technologies and tools in the automation of administrative processes.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Meticulous attention to detail.

Assets (Nonessential):

• Familiarity and knowledge of Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) policies and guidelines, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) legislation (Animals for Research Act), and other related regulations and guidelines.

• Experience in research ethics preferred.

• Experience in a similar university or hospital setting preferred.

• Experience with databases and online protocol review systems preferred.

• Workflow and scheduling applications; and content management systems experience preferred.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW Pay Band 07 - $51,656 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $66,061. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
