Call for Nomination

The CALAS/ACSAL Nominations Committee is seeking nominations to serve a four (4) year term on the Board of Directors, starting Wednesday, June 24, 2020 until the 2024 Annual General Meeting.

The mission of the Nominations Committee is to ensure good governance by ensuring that the Board of Directors has a balanced skill-set and fair representation of our membership including:

Our diverse membership (Technicians, Managers, Veterinarians and Administrators)
Members from the various geographic regions we serve
Individuals who poses additional skills that will enhance the overall competency of the Board

The committee will be reviewing possible candidates and will be presenting a slate of the best qualified to the membership in early June, 2020.

Strategic, visionary thinking
Problem solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Honest and accountable to the entire membership
Leadership qualities
Willingness to learn and build skills

Additional Skill Set

In order to ensure a balance of skills on the Board of Directors, possessing any of the following skills would be an asset:

Good understanding of the CALAS/ACSAL certification exams
Financial/budgeting knowledge
Training and education experience
Experience working with people
Communications/social media
Lab animal knowledge
Legal knowledge
Ability to write/edit technical information

The Commitment

4 year term, board members can serve a maximum of 2 consecutive terms (eligible for additional terms after 1 year off)
The volume of additional work between meetings will depend on the workload of selected committees (1 - 10 hours)
Expected to attend
- Bi-monthly teleconference calls (1 - 1.5 hours each)
- Annual Strategic Retreat in Toronto, each January or February
- A 1 hour in-person meeting during the annual Symposium

The Process

Members are encouraged to nominate candidates who have a willingness to serve, self nominations are acceptable
Complete the Board Nomination Form, ensure that skills and qualities are highlighted
Submit the form to National Office by April 20, 2020
Members of the Nominations will review nominations and may reach out to nominees to confirm willingness to serve and skills
Selected candidates will be confirmed by phone or email
A slate of recommended directors will be presented to the membership for election at the Annual General Meeting
