CERTIFICATION

Registered Laboratory Animal Technician

The Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (RLAT) is comprised of a Written and Oral/Practical Examination.  Only complete application packages, including the documents specified below and payment, received by the posted deadline, will be considered for review.

Recent changes to the certification program: Several study sessions that cover topics on the RLAT exam are now offered to candidates prior to the written exam 
RLAT

Documentation Required:

  • Diploma in Animal Health Technology or Veterinary Technician or ARLAT Certificate
  • Résumé
  • All relevant Degrees, Diplomas, Certifications, and schools you have attended

 Fees: $436.05

 Written Exam

  • Online Exam, Proctored
  • 100 multiple-choice questions
  • Passing mark is 75%
  • Due Date: April 5, 2024

 Oral/Practical*

  • Proctored
  • Passing mark is 65%
  • Due Date: June 2024, scheduled by local Proctor

Note: Candidate must have successfully completed the written exam in order to proceed to the Oral/Practical


RLAT PROVISIONAL

The Provisional Exam is for Candidates that are students in their last year of post-secondary education, have graduated from a post-secondary diploma program or have completed a related university degree. Only the Written Exam is required at this time. Once 1500 relevant work experience hours are completed, Candidates can apply to take the Oral Exam and achieve their RLAT.

Documentation Required:

  • Name of program of study and date of graduation
  • Proof of enrollment in final year of program (Acceptance letter, current transcripts, letter from faculty, etc.)
  • All relevant certifications, degrees and schools you have attended.

Fees: $303.55 

Written Exam

  • Online Exam, Proctored
  • 100 multiple-choice questions
  • Passing mark is 75%
  • Due Date: April 5, 2024


RLAT (Oral/Practical Only)

Candidates must have successfully completed the provisional written exam and achieved the correct number of hours (1500).

Fees: $353.32

 Oral/Practical*

  • Proctored
  • Passing mark is 65%
  • Due Date: June 2024

Note: If the candidate passes the written but not the oral/practical, they are required to complete the written again within a year.
