Types of Membership

CALAS/ACSAL offers different types of memberships such as National (individual membership), Student, Business and Institutional. Below is more information on each type of membership


National

National members are individuals who are directly or indirectly responsible for the care and well-being of laboratory animals. National members have the right to receive notice of, attend and vote at all meetings of the members. National members are eligible for election to the board of directors.

  • Ability to register at all ICLAS member organization symposiums and conferences at their member rates

National members who have successfully completed the ARLAT-3, RLAT or RMLAT are required to obtain Mandatory Continuing Education Credits and must renew membership on an annual basis. If a lapse of two years occurs, your certification status will be rescinded. To regain entry into the certification program, the examination process must be repeated.

Student

Student members are enrolled in an animal care program (technician or veterinary) at a recognized educational institution and benefit from reduced membership rates in CALAS/ACSAL. Student members are not entitled to vote at membership meetings but are entitled to receive the member’s magazine.

Institutional

Institutional members are any educational institutions, or not-for-profit organizations (incorporated or otherwise), that have an interest in improving the educational standards of animal care personnel. Institutional members do not have the right to vote at membership meetings. However, each Institutional member is issued 2 National membership cards for use by 2 representatives of the Institution. Every representative of an Institutional member has the right to exercise voting and all other rights of a National member for as long as the representative holds a National membership card. Each Institutional member is entitled to receive a certificate of recognition.

  • 50% off Job Postings
  • Organizational Certificate of Recognition
  • Commitment highlighted in the annual membership directory
  • 2 national memberships for named representatives (entitled to all benefits of a national member as described above)

Apply as a Institutional Member

 

 


Business

Business members are organizations or companies that provide for sale or a fee, products or services used in laboratory animal care. Business members do not have the right to vote at membership meetings, however, each Business member is issued two National membership card for use by representatives of the Business member. The representatives of a Business member have the right to exercise voting and all other rights of a National member for as long as the representative holds a National membership card. Each Business member is entitled to receive a certificate of recognition.

  • Company listing in the new Buyers Guide section of the Annual Membership Directory
  • Company listing in the on-line supplier section of the CALAS/ACSAL web site
  • 2 national memberships for named representatives (entitled to all benefits of a national member as described above)
  • Advanced copy of the Sponsorship and Exhibitor Prospectus for the Annual Symposium
  • $300 discount on exhibit space at the Annual Symposium
  • 50% off Job Postings
  • Ability to place advertising in the Annual Members Directory (for a nominal fee)
  • Opportunity to place one (1) technical and/or educational article per year in the Members Magazine (content subject to approval of the editor)
  • Listing and promotion of your technical presentations to the CALAS/ACSAL Regional Chapters (Regional Chapters will select and book on their own)

Apply as a Business Member

 

 


Retired Members

Retired members are individuals who are no longer active in the laboratory animal field but were previous members of CALAS/ACSAL. Retired Members have the right to receive notice of, attend and vote at all meetings of the members.

Benefits of a Retired Membership

  • Full voting rights
  • Reduced rate on a National Membership
  • Quarterly Members Magazine
  • Ability to register at all ICLAS member organization symposiums and conferences at their member rates
  • Access to password-protected areas of the CALAS/ACSAL web site
  • Retired Certified Members who do not maintain their Continuing Education can opt to remove their “Registered” status.

Member of Distinction

Member of Distinction is an honour awarded by the Board of Directors in recognition of extraordinary and meritorious contributions to CALAS/ACSAL: Nominees must have been CALAS/ACSAL members for ten (10) or more years and must have been employed in the laboratory animal field for a minimum of 10 years. Members of Distinction have the right to vote at membership meetings and are eligible for election to the board of directors.
